Every design decision in Odyssi starts from one constraint: the device has no signal. Everything else follows from that.
Offline-First Architecture
IndexedDB is the primary database. The service worker caches every asset on first load. Once installed, Odyssi never needs the internet again — not to log, not to search, not to export.
Full Taxonomy Database
Species and subspecies records with genus, family, order, and class. Log known taxa, provisional identifications, formally undescribed organisms, and first-observation unknown animals — no scientific name required.
Individual Animal Tracking
Beyond species — track specific animals. Link tag codes to individual profiles. Every scan builds a resighting timeline: who saw it, where, when, and in what condition.
Darwin Core Export
Export in the global biodiversity data standard — directly uploadable to GBIF, iNaturalist, and any institutional database. Your field data enters the scientific record.
Privacy by Design
No trackers. No analytics. No data leaves your device without your explicit export action. Camera access is scoped to the scanner only. Strong security headers enforced at the edge.
